Latest Book-Haul

As you might know from my blog-post from two days ago, I have been travelling and am currently staying abroad. I had used my travel-plans as an excuse to place a (couple of) Bookoutlet order(s) in the past months - and received one of them a few days ago. Another (smaller!) one arrived a few days ago but we weren't home, so we'll have to go and pick that up some time... and another one, that I had ordered months ago, is waiting for me to pick it up at my family's place - I'll hopefully get a chance to do so this upcoming weekend.

3 Harlan Coben books for my fiancé
  • Long Lost (Myron Bolitar) by Harlan Coben

Myron Bolitar hasn't heard from Terese Collins since their torrid affair ended ten years ago, so her desperate phone call from Paris catches him completely off guard. In a shattering admission, Terese reveals the tragic story behind her disappearance - her struggles to get pregnant, the greatest moment of her life when her baby was born…and the fatal accident that robbed her of it all: her marriage, her happiness and her beloved only daughter. Now a suspect in the murder of her ex-husband in Paris, Terese has nowhere else to turn for help. Myron heeds the call. But then a startling piece of evidence turns the entire case upside down, laying bare Terese's long-buried family secrets…and the very real possibility that her daughter may still be alive. In grave danger from unknown assailants in a country where nothing is as it seems, Myron and Terese race to stay a step ahead of Homeland Security, Interpol, and Mossad. Soon they are working at breakneck pace, not only to learn what really happened to Terese's long-lost little girl - but to uncover a sinister plot with shocking global implications.

One book I had ordered was for my sister
  • The Ice Dragon (Special First Edition) by George R.R. Martin
The Ice Dragon is an enchanting tale of courage and sacrifice for young readers and adults by the wildly popular author of the #1New York Times bestselling Song of Ice and Fire series, George R.R. Martin. Lavish illustrations by acclaimed artist Luis Royo enrich this captivating and heartwarming story of a young girl and her dragon.
In the world of A Song of Ice and Fire the ice dragon was a creature of legend and fear, for no man had ever tamed one. When it flew overhead, it left in its wake desolate cold and frozen land. But Adara was not afraid. For Adara was a winter child, born during the worst freeze that anyone, even the Old Ones, could remember.
Adara could not remember the first time she had seen the ice dragon. It seemed that it had always been in her life, glimpsed from afar as she played in the frigid snow long after the other children had fled the cold. In her fourth year she touched it, and in her fifth year she rode upon its broad, chilled back for the first time. Then, in her seventh year, on a calm summer day, fiery dragons from the North swooped down upon the peaceful farm that was Adara’s home. And only a winter child—and the ice dragon who loved her—could save her world from utter destruction.

  • Four Seconds to Lose by K.A. Tucker

I believe you don't have years, or months, or weeks to impact a person's life. You have seconds. Seconds to win them over, and seconds to lose them.

Owning a strip club isn't the fantasy most guys expect it to be. With long hours, a staff with enough issues to keep a psych ward in business, and the police regularly on his case, twenty-nine-year-old Cain is starting to second-guess his unspoken mission to save the women he employs. And then blond, brown-eyed Charlie Rourke walks through his door, and things get really complicated. Cain abides by a strict "no sleeping with his staff" rule. But being around Charlie challenges Cain's self-control . . . and it's been a long time since any woman has done that.

Twenty-two-year-old Charlie Rourke needs a lot of money, really fast, in order to vanish before it's too late. Taking her clothes off for men makes her stomach curl, but Charlie tells herself that at least she's putting her acting and dancing skills to good use. And though her fellow dancers seem eager to nab their sexy, sophisticated, and genuinely caring boss, she's not interested. After all, Charlie Rourke doesn't really exist - and the girl pretending to be her can't get distracted by romance.

Unfortunately, Charlie soon discovers that developing feelings for Cain is inevitable, and that those feelings may not be unrequited - but losing him when he finds out what she's involved with will be more painful than any other sentence awaiting her.

  • Beautiful Oblivion by Jamie McGuire

The Beautiful Disaster and Walking Disaster phenomenon continues in the first heart-pounding new adult romance in The Maddox Brothers series.

Fiercely independent Camille "Cami" Camlin gladly moved on from her childhood before it was over. She has held down a job since before she could drive, and moved into her own apartment after her freshman year of college. Now tending bar at The Red Door, Cami doesn't have time for much else besides work and classes, until a trip to see her boyfriend is cancelled, leaving her with a first weekend off in almost a year.

Trenton Maddox was the king of Eastern State University, dating co-eds before he even graduated high school. His friends wanted to be him, and women wanted to tame him, but after a tragic accident turned his world upside down, Trenton leaves campus to come to grips with the crushing guilt.

Eighteen months later, Trenton is living at home with his widower father, and works full-time at a local tattoo parlor to help with the bills. Just when he thinks his life is returning to normal, he notices Cami sitting alone at a table at The Red.

As the baby sister of four rowdy brothers, Cami believes she'll have no problem keeping her new friendship with Trenton Maddox strictly platonic. But when a Maddox boy falls in love, he loves forever - even if she is the only reason their already broken family could fall apart.

In the first installment of the Maddox Brothers books, readers can experience the rush they felt reading Beautiful Disaster for the first time, all over again.

    Mail-Day Friday

As if the mailman knew that I had just posted my newest additions yesterday, he just dropped off these 744 pages of punk rock history!

Each month, the school I attended until December gives away a book to someone active on their facebook-page - to their "fan of the month". I was fan of the month in December, and got to pick a book worth up to 25€. I had been toying with the idea of getting this for years, but always ended up getting several novels for what I would have had to spend on this - so it kept chilling on my amazon wishlist, trying to tempt me... until school asked me what I wanted.

"Punk Diary is a day-by-day account of exactly how this historic and mythologized era came to pass. Here's all the data, important and trivial, prestend to you just as it unfolded through an astounding 13 years. The early '70s were a dreary time for music. The latest thing seemed to be introspective singer-songwriters who poured their souls into convoluted lyrics and strummy-strummy noodling, or the ponderous, overproduced hogwash of Queen, Genesis, Yes, and their ilk. There was nothing that average kids could hope to indentify with; they couldn't participate. What was needed was to roll back the clock to the mid '60s, when garage bands could plunk out a few raw chords and produce a rattle that would send parents running for their earplugs. By the time 1975 came around, the stage was not only set for a revolution in music, they players were already in the wings, warming up.

There is no other book that so clearly shows how all the pieces fit together, or that lets you be your own rock analyst armed with an expert's fact file. No opinions here; only the day-to-day reality, just as if you were living it all over again, or for the very first time."

As someone who not only enjoys listening to more contemporary music, but also to bands like The Clash and the Sex Pistols, I am curious to dig my way through this book. (:

    Move-In Day Introductions

    Hey y'all (:

    I thought I'd do a rather quick and random post to introduce the newest additions to my bookshelf to you - some of these I've acquired as early as December, some of them as late as early February, but this seemed like a fun little thing to blog about. I will also do my best to include any "new" additions to my kindle - but I have been rather awful at keeping track of those. I shall do a better job in the future (;

Never Never by Colleen Hoover and Tarryn Fisher has been my latest purchase and is the book I am currently reading. I know I included it in my recent "currently reading" post and normally I would already be done with it - it's really hard to put this read down! - but I have been battling the flu for about two weeks now. Sick equals lots of time to read you'd think, but... when you have to reread each sentence seven times because you can't focus on anything, it doesn't do you any good.

Can't wait to share my thoughts on this one though!

You can find Never Never on amazon by clicking here.

Finding Cinderella by Colleen Hoover is one of my most favorite novellas. Ever. Which is why my sister got me a paperback copy for Christmas - I am one of those people who actually prefer physical copies but will definitely read both.

I have recently reread this gem and have posted a little review.

Go here to get a copy of Finding Cinderella.

Yes, I know what you're thinking: more by Colleen Hoover?!
As you might or might not have already noticed, I just looooove her writing! Which is why I treated myself to paperback copies of her novels Slammed and Point of Retreat when I found them on sale. I was a little bummed when I received that version of Slammed rather than the one that had been advertised, the one matching the Point of Retreat one - the U.S. one - buuuut... the story's the same, so who am I to complain?

Follow the following links to find Slammed and Point of Retreat on amazon.

Looking for Alaska by John Green is another one of the books that I mentioned in my recent "currently reading" post. I am just about done with it and cannot wait to talk about it!

Find Looking for Alaska on amazon.

The Mortal Instruments, Book Two - City of Ashes - by Cassandra Clare. Two years ago, by brother had gotten me the first book in the series for Christmas - and since I still hadn't purchased book two by last Christmas, he got it for me. (:
    I am looking forward to diving back into the world of The Mortal Instruments - and who knows? My brother might turn this into a gifting-tradition until I own the full series! (;

Go here to purchase your copy on amazon.

Ben Elton's Dead Famous - the reason why I purchased this might actually make you laugh. Excerpts from this book were part of my English final last fall. They made it sound like a really interesting story, so I went and looked for the book online - and came across rebuy, an online store selling, amonst other things, used books. I paid 0,99€ for it, rather than the 11,57€ it would have been on other pages. And guess what? -  The book looks like it has never been read before.

    Get Dead Famous on amazon.

While I was living in Hamburg (Germany) to complete my finals, I had several flatmates. One of them was Stefan (hi, Stefan!), who was, at the time we were living together, reading The Hundred-Year-Old Man Who Climbed Out of the Window and Disappeared by Jonas Jonasson. I have to yet start reading it, but Stefan kept recommending, so I just couldn't say no while I was browsing rebuy - and got it for just 2,29€.

Find The Hundred-Year-Old Man Who Climbed Out of the Window and Disappeared on amazon.

    Heart of Darkness by Joseph Conrad - my motivation for this purchase was a quote I had read somewhere while researching something... I shall share it once I have stumbled across in the book! (;

Heart of Darkness was another one of my rebuy-purchases - at just 0,99€.

    Find it on amazon.

    Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn

I have not seen the movie, but this book was recommended to me by a fellow applicant at a job interview. She seemed to really like it, and once I had stumbled across it on my rebuy spree for just 1,59€, I figured I should give it a read!

    Find Gone Girl on amazon.

the short second life of bree tanner by Stephenie Meyer

Like many, I was a huge fan of the Twilight series years ago - but I haven't reopened the books in what feels like forever. Yet, I just couldn't not get this novella at just 0,99€ (rebuy - again! - it will be the death of my savings!), because I am one of those people who want to finish a series once they've started it, and this is the only one of the books I haven't read yet.

    Get it on amazon.

    Blank books!
I got these three pretties for Christmas, to put down my own words. I just love writing, so these come in very handy! Nothing to review there, obviously, but I loved the designs so much I just wanted to share them with you.

    Recent additions to my kindle:

Life After You by K.E. Taylor
I received this as a free review-copy from the author. Click the title to get to my review.

    Snow Flakes by K.E. Taylor
After I had read Life After You I just had to have more, so I went ahead and downloaded this novella from amazon. Click the title to get to my review.

Leo (Sign of Love Book 1) by Mia Sheridan (which is currently FREE on amazon!)
A friend of mine recommended this, so I cannot wait to see what it is all about!

Debt Inheritance (Indebted Book 1) by Pepper Winters (which is currently FREE on amazon!)
This book has really bad reviews on amazon, but a facebook friend of mine recommended it, so I figured I might as well give it a try despite the reviews on amazon - it was, after all, free - so no loss either way!
